Birthday fun! William is ONE?!?

Saturday was William's first birthday. It was a strange birthday and I am glad he is small enough that he won't remember. I made him a birthday cake inspired by Sid.

I was trying to think of something he likes to use for the cake and Sid thought I should make a banana because he loves bananas so much, so I went with a monkey and some bananas. The monkey was chocolate cake and the bananas were banana cake, which the kids loved!

We had his cake a day early so Grandma and Grandpa could participate. This worked out really well because he spent the morning on his birthday at the doctor and wasn't eating well all day. He has a virus that includes an impressive rash all over his body. He had a fever through most of last week and then this rash showed up on Friday (it was hard to get pictures since he wouldn't hold still).

After the trip to the doctor he opened some presents and took a nap.

He opened another present and we all played outside. He loves to be outside and we are all glad we have had good weather to help him be happy while he's been so sick. I took him on a walk while Paul got the other kids in bed. I enjoyed the walk and he was happy.
This week the rash seems to keep getting worse, but he is acting like he is feeling better, so I guess we will see how the rest of the week plays out. I love all the nice cuddles I have gotten from him and how excited he was to see me when we got home from church on Sunday. That was a good Mother's Day present for me!

Shelly, I'm stealing your idea for Eli's next birthday cake! I know, I know, planning almost a year in advance. But how could I resist?!

Really cute cake. I have no cake decorating skills but I will have to keep this in mind when my mother-in-law asks about cakes for the boys. She loves to make cakes!
Sorry your little man was sick.
