My first ever furniture project!

We decided that Savannah could use a desk in her room and that it would be a great birthday present. Then we realized that she would have to pass down her bunk set to some little brothers soon and she ended up with an entirely new bedroom set. The desk was a $10 find at a sale a church was doing. It had a really bad crackle job where one section looked like glue and a place on the back where there was actually a piece of tape that had been painted over.

The chair was actually covered with pink foam from a chair cushion that had stuck to the really bad paint job that was cracked and peeling. I wish I had taken a picture before that was all sanded off, but the chair on the right shows the condition of the previous paint (that one had not had anything done to it when I took this picture).

The headboard was fine and in great condition, but just a bit boring.
The dresser was pretty cute and had awesome hardware on it, but needed a few drawer tracks fixed and the existing paint was pretty gross.I traced a cute design on to help with the hand painting. There is no way I could ever freehand anything like this.Savannah was very excited to see her new room. I was particularly excited for the opportunity to throw out a lot of her junk and that everything actually turned out.It took quite a while to get the old and crackly paint off the desk and make it use able as a writing surface. It was just a pain in the neck to get all the paint out of the nooks and crannies of the chair. The headboard was not very difficult, but the primer was really gritty on this and I still am not sure why. I sanded it a bunch of times throughout the process to try to smooth it out and there is still one spot I really don't like, so it is officially against the wall.I fixed the tracks on two drawers and had to give the dresser five coats of paint before I was satisfied with it, but I am glad I put in the effort.Savannah loves the added detail!
I just went with a simple white and was planning to glaze it, but the glaze just didn't have the look I was going for when I tried it out. I am glad I braved the hand-painted details because they really tie all the pieces together.

A super duper special thanks goes out to my friend, Liz, who let me hide all of this in her garage and not only put up with me coming over day and night to get it all finished, but even pitched in and helped with the dirty work. Her daughter, Lexi, was an excellent motivator and sander as the three of us spent an evening getting that chair's legs sanded down. Also, thanks to Sarah for being an amazing and inspiring person and for having a blog I could stalk obsessively to convince myself that I could actually do this in the first place.
