Happy Birthday, Savannah!

Savannah is nine now. Yes, nine. I can barely believe it myself. She got a whole new bedroom set which I had refinished for her (see previous post). If she was not already spoiled enough with that, I also made her a cake. IT WAS FUN!!
She wanted it to look like ice cream, so I made a whole bunch of ice-cream-scoop-sized cake balls.
I coated them with different flavors of melted chocolate chips. I started with white and I was not sure how things were going to turn out since I was trying to dip them like chocolates (in something that really doesn't count as chocolate at all). I switched tactics and poured the melted chips over the top and pushed it down the sides and it really gave the drippy ice cream look I was going for.
I added some small chunks of cookie dough and some mini chocolate chips and ended up with four flavors of ice cream: cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, vanilla, and chocolate.
After piling it all up in a big dish I poured the remaining chocolate over the top to give it a "hot fudge" topping. It was quite tricky trying to stick the candles in the spaces between scoops, but nothing lit on fire that wasn't supposed to, so I think we did pretty well in the end.
She had a few small gifts in addition to the furniture, just so she'd have something to actually unwrap.
Happy birthday to my sweet girl!

This goes for this post and the previous post... ahem... Golly! Is there anything you can't do?
