Fall Break Part 5: Crazy Horse

We visited the still-in-progress Crazy Horse Memorial during a snowstorm. It was actually nice because they  gave us a half-price admission and a return voucher (so we could get great pictures of the actual memorial on a day we could see it). The museum there is absolutely amazing and well worth a visit. They have tons of artifacts and artwork there.
This is a model of what the finished sculpture will look like.
This is a cute baby with her cute daddy...oh, and a sculpture and snow in the background (her first snowstorm!).
Savannah was by far the most excited about the museum. She recently did a research report on Touch the Clouds, who was Crazy Horse's cousin. Much of the information she found and read included Crazy Horse although we did not see anything in the museum for Touch the Clouds.
This wall showed the progress of the carving through the years.

Grammie brought supplies to make necklaces and it worked out well to do them after we had seen so much amazing artwork and jewelry.

Savannah, Sid, and William jumped right in.
I was surprised how meticulous they all were.
William absolutely loved his red turtle.
Even Matthew was super careful until he finished. Then he decided dumping them on the floor and cleaning them up again was fun (at least he had the second part in there).
Once Austin figured out what everyone was doing, he joined in as well.
This was our return to Crazy Horse the following day. Savannah had fun posing as the statues for pictures. Here she is being crazy...I mean Crazy Horse.
This is the "official" statue with the mountain in the background.
And, finally, the actual mountain carving.
