Hands
Hands are amazing. I just wanted to be sure that everyone remembered this (because I am pretty sure people already know). I decided to be a great mom yesterday and actually gave my baby some toys. This was the first official presentation of toys to little William. We have one "hanging toy" that is designed for babies who haven't completely figured out their hands yet, so I got it set up and put it in front of my 3-week-old baby. Lo and behold, he starts swatting at the toys as if he has been waiting in anticipation for the opportunity to use those little hands for something other than chomping on and grabbing hold of rags and clothes. He seems to know what he is supposed to do with these toys and it is almost as if he has actually seen them before. Savannah's glee that he could swat them and have them make rattling noises was fun to observe as well. We sat and watched this simple action of a tiny baby moving his hands to a spot two inches ahead and I was amazed that this teeny little person could do such a thing. I started thinking about the gazillion times a day we each do very complicated things with our hands (I have been known to finger-spell in sign language at high speeds without being aware of it) and couldn't help thinking about the many small miracles we have in life that we rarely remember. William may still be figuring out that his hands exist, but for the rest of us, let's just remember how many things we are able to do with our wonderful bodies and how amazing it is!

That's amazing! I don't think my kids start realizing they can use their hands until they are about 3 MONTHS old. Holy cow! You've got a genius on your hands! Good times!
