Today is Sid's 6th birthday. A few weeks ago I asked him "how is it that you are almost six and I haven't even strangled you yet?" Since this was mostly a rhetorical question (maybe just an attempt at prompting a goofy look or laugh), his answer made me laugh hysterically. He turned to me with a slightly surprised expression and said, "and you haven't even locked me up in my bedroom yet either!!" What a great, goofy kid Sid is!

Sid requested a snowman birthday cake. I had fun with this one and figuring out how to make it work using only random pans we have in our house. The bottom and middle layers are layered cakes, making the final product a 6-layer cake (or 7 if you count the brim of the hat). The middle section needed a little trimming to get the right shape and proportions, so I used the portion I trimmed off the bottom of one cake for the brim of the hat and all the scraps for the rest of the hat. I mixed the crumbled cake with chocolate frosting and it is almost a fudge, but works like play-doh to mold into whatever shape you want. I think I will use this idea in the future. Happy, Happy Birthday to my "Widdo Siddo" (even if you think you have officially outgrown that nickname)!!

This is how excited he was to get a package of printer paper with which he can create anything he so desires!
