Thanksgiving morning I participated in "The Human Race" in Utah. The mighty runners/walkers included me, Julie (sister), Brianna (sister-in-law), Ryan (brother), Mom, Melissa (cousin), and Dad. It was a 5K race (3.1 miles) and there were a LOT of people there. The race began at 8 in the morning and the reported temperature was 18 degrees. Brrr. It wasn't too cold since we were warming up and then running, but after the race was done and we were waiting around I started freezing! The big clincher on this race was that I had been very sick and vomiting all night Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and I didn't want to eat anything on Wednesday, so I really had no fuel to run on. After all of that I wasn't sure if I was going to run it at all. Thankfully, my sister was also sick (coughing up her lungs) and we decided to do the race and run at least the first mile and then go from there. We ran the entire distance and finished in 33 minutes (not a great time, but we were both deathly ill and that cold air was burning my lungs). In the end it was a nice little race to begin our Thanksgiving day. We were able to join over 3,600 people in contributing over $50,000 to the Utah Food Bank and LDS Humanitarian Services. It was a great cause and was fun to be involved in such a big event. If anyone is in Utah next year, sign up!!
