The mystery of the missing jammies

Suspect: William Thomas (A.K.A. William Trouble)
Victims: Almost all the jammies and socks previously residing in the top drawer
Witnesses: None (at least none who were conscious or are willing to talk)
Date: November 4, 2009
Time: Between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm

The Case: At approximately two-o'clock pm on November 4, 2009, the suspect's mother sat down in her recliner. She discovered that after spending little time in said recliner since the suspect was about two months of age, that "this really is a great and comfy chair, I haven't used it much for a while." The next thing she was aware of was waking up about 45 minutes later and discovering that the top drawer of the suspect's dresser was half-empty.

Having witnessed similar cases in the past she looked to the floor to discover no existing traces of the missing pajamas and socks. The one possible eyewitness, the suspect's brother, claims to have no recollection of the relocating of said items and insists that "William was just playin' in there." The mother searched the house for the missing items and was unable to discover their whereabouts.

After giving up her search she was relieved that there was an extra pair of jammies on the counter in the laundry room, having been cleaned and never put away. The mother left the house that evening after telling her husband that "it might be a good idea to send the kids on a treasure hunt to find William's jammies before bedtime. I fell asleep and he was emptying his drawer, but I have no idea where he hid everything that he took out of the drawer."

The suspect's father sent out the search party with confidence in their discovery abilities, but was disappointed when the search party came back empty-handed. Both parents were completely perplexed by the disappearance of the items in question.

The Resolution: On November 5, 2009 the suspect's mother sat down on the recliner, with a determination to stay awake and play with her little boy. The little boy took one look at the dresser, opened the top drawer, and grabbed a pair of socks. He grinned as he turned around a bolted out the doorway. With a grin on her face as well, the mother followed the suspect to the laundry room to see him place the pair of socks in a blue box, which had been labeled as "pull-ups." The mother looked into this box, with an even bigger grin on her face and discovered all of the missing pajamas and socks piled into a box that both parents and the search party had overlooked. Both the suspect and the victims are pleased to report that there was no harm done and that the mother has not been able to put everything away from the box because "it is just such a cute thing to remember."

What a cute little story. Love that it had a happy ending!

The drawer was half-empty? You are such a pessimist. I think I would just buy new pjs.

Half empty because it had just been emptied. If I had put that half of the clothes in, it would be half full. It has nothing to do with optimism or pessimism.
