"It's too big to be yellow stones. It should be called 'Yellowrock!'"

Yes, we visited Yellowstone although whether the yellow colored hard objects are called stones or rocks is still up for debate. Rocks are bigger than stones and this canyon is made up of HUGE rocks. Perhaps I should inform Sid that boulders are even bigger than rocks and, therefore, we should call the place "Yellowboulder" or even "Yellowmountain." While we were at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone he was sure we needed to rename the first national park, but has since decided that it is okay to call the place "Yellowstone."

We had given the kids a fair warning that the mud pots did not smell pleasant. Savannah has an exceptional sense of smell, so I thought she would be repulsed and would be unable to discuss the smell of sulfur with any positive adjectives, but she did. Her response to the nasty stench was "I think it smells good!" Bring on the rotten eggs for this girl!
We went on a lot of small "hikes" to see geysers, springs, and waterfalls. Austin wanted to walk in front of his parents on all of the hikes we went on and refused to hold hands with anyone unless we were walking on asphalt (I guess I have him ingrained with the concept of holding hands on the road...but no where else).
Our little William was so good even when he was exhausted. He is just a joyful little boy. He was so tired that he took a nap in the backpack when we walked around the Old Faithful geyser basin. He was awake just long enough to see Old Faithful, but slept through the rest. He was such a trooper as we dragged him all over during and through his nap times.

We had a photo contest for the best pictures of people, wildlife and scenery, so I decided to group our vacation pictures on this blog into these three categories. These are just some of my favorites. If you are dying for more pictures, there are plenty more. Feel free to ask!

I would definately go with Yellowboulder. Those are great pictures...even the ones I didn't take.

My pick for the winning pictures are:
People - Julie and Sid strolling
Animals - the bald eagle
Scenery - the bacterial pool #1
