Pillows

I got some pillows for my living room to add some color to the previously monochromatic scheme in that room. I found a little bit of damage on the fabric of one of the pillows and was debating whether to take it back or not. I doubt anyone would notice it, but now that I knew it was there it was probably going to bother me. I found the receipt and realized I hadn’t even been charged for the pillow in question. Now I HAD to take it back and at least pay for it. This pillow happened to be the most expensive of the six pillows I had bought, but was one that I needed in order to tie everything else together. I headed back to the store, handed them the pillow and told them I hadn’t been charged for it, but since it was a little damaged anyway, I would just go buy myself one now. The lady looked at me like I was a little insane, but smiled and said “thank you for your honesty.” I hadn’t really thought about it before then. We believe in being honest. I guess I could have kept the pillow, convincing myself that the small damage was fine since I got it for free anyway, but the thought hadn’t really occurred to me. All I had thought when I realized I hadn’t been charged for it was that now there was no question in returning it. Well, many times honesty is something we don’t see the reward of (at least not immediately), but the bottom line of this little story is that when I returned to the store to buy the new pillow, it was on sale and I ended up spending less than I would have if I had been charged for it in the first place. Yay!!
